What is a Classic Eight?

In New York City, these apartments are the elusive treasure that many Gotham dwellers seek but few find.
Built before World World II (also called pre-war), the Classic Eight consists of 8 rooms (formal dining room, living room, a separate kitchen, three bedrooms, and two maids' room).  Want to know more? Read on as theclassiceight.com explores the architects, apartment buildings, and the city, past and present.

NEW YORK CITY'S TREASURES

LOST TO THE AGES

New York City has changed and evolved over the centuries. Neighborhoods and buildings have been transformed, molded and remolded. Unfortunately, some of the City's architecture treasures have been lost to development and time.

Let's take a look back at the

New York of old.

New York City
About

About this website...

I am not a native New Yorker, but I am fascinated with the history
of the city and its buildings. While I don't love driving through Lincoln Tunnel or parking at the Port Authority (who does?), it's worth the experience.

On a completely different note, I have written two articles about Old New York as a guest writer for Untapped New York:

New York City Department Store, B Altman and Co. Lost to The Ages (untappedcities.com)

Gilded Age Fight for Queen Between Mrs. Astor and Alva Vanderbilt (untappedcities.com)
